Reporting to the Associate Director, Business Intelligence Application Systems; the Sr. Application Systems Developer will develop Analytics and ETL solutions using MS-SQL Server tools such as SSAS/DAX, Power BI, and SSIS. The role identifies business intelligence, reporting and data analysis needs and works closely with clients and IT teams to turn data into critical information that can be used to make sound business decisions. Other areas of responsibility will include the design, development and the mentoring and training of power users using Power BI reporting and other types of advanced analytics. If needed, the incumbent will be expected to go to Power BI training and become well versed with the tool.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Designs and develops BI and Analytic solutions using DAX with Power BI. -Designs and develops ETL solutions using data warehouse design best practices using tools like SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and Business Objects Data Services (BODS). -Organizes User Group meetings. -Will be responsible for Enterprise Power BI platform Security design, System administration and Production support. -Monitors reports, users, resources and tune as needed. -Creates and enforces report developer best practices. -Develops user training requirements as needed. -Enhances and debugs reports/code as necessary. -Possesses strong customer focus, along with effective written and oral communication skills. -Develops self-service reporting with Business Objects Universes and Web Intelligence (WEBI) reports as needed. -Responsible for operational responsibilities for nightly ETL processes. -All other duties as assigned.
General Minimum Qualifications: -Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. -Minimum 4-6 years work related experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: -4+ years of Business Intelligence, Analytics and Data warehouse/data mart experience in a team environment. -2+ years' experience with DAX scripting with SSAS or Power BI. -2+ years' working with a leading ETL tool (i.e. SSIS, Business Objects Data Services, Data Integrator, Informatica, Pentaho, Talend). -2+ year of architecture, administration and hands on SSAS or Power BI report tool set experience - developing complex dashboards, integrating and enriching data, and implementing DAX. -Experience with SSRS, and/or Excel Services. -Experience creating process models or data flow diagrams. -Excellent business analysis, data analysis, documentation and requirements gathering skills. -Experience in Agile methodology and Proof of Concept iterative design and development approach. -Strong Database and SQL experience - SQL Server, Oracle. -Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experienced in customer support. -Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including teamwork/collaboration, analytical thinking, communication and influencing skills, and technical expertise. -Ability to work with changing priorities and with multiple projects. -Ability to be precise and attentive to detail is essential. -Ability to work with minimal supervision. -Ability to work weekend and off-hour work on occasion.
Preferred Qualifications: -Experience designing & developing Microsoft Power BI Analytics and reports. -Knowledge and experience using Statistical tools (i.e. SAS, SPSS). -Knowledge and experience using Advanced Analytics tools (i.e. R, SAS JMP, Dell Statistica, RapidMiner). -Knowledge of Data Cookbook, Data Catalog or similar data dictionary. -Experience with self-service reporting tools such as WEBI and Universe Designer. -Project management experience. -Experience with Cloud technology, particularly Azure or AWS. -Experience in Data Modeling and Data Governance. -Knowledge of PeopleSoft data, especially Campus Solutions, Finance, and HR. -Designing mobile reports. -Data extraction and manipulation experience. -Data Warehouse modeling techniques, particularly Kimball. -Knowledge of relational data modeling (i.e. 3rd normal form). -Perl, Python and/or Java knowledge a big plus. -Experience working with a scheduling tool (i.e. UC4/Automic). -Power BI integration experience with Shibboleth, CAS, and/or Active Directory.
