Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Director of Financial Aid for the New Brunswick campus. This position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management–New Brunswick. The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for preparing and managing the Financial Aid Office's annual operating and scholarship budgets, and overseeing the administration and coordination of all student financial aid programs at Rutgers University–New Brunswick. The Director is the key person in RU–NB efforts to maximize aid opportunities and minimize students' cost of attendance over the course of their academic career. The Director serves as a critical liaison to the Rutgers-wide enrollment management team and advises senior administrators in formulating, interpreting, and implementing financial aid policies for RU-NB, and provides recommendations for regional campuses to ensure that policy and procedural interpretations are consistent. Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Supervises and manages all operations of the Office of Financial Aid at Rutgers University–New Brunswick
Responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, determining financial aid awarding guidelines, and overseeing the administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid for RU–NB.
Reviews, recommends, and implements all new and redesigned procedures under supervision of the Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management–New Brunswick and in collaboration with University Director of Financial Aid
Maintains internal controls, systems, and procedures and establishes policies for all financial aid programs to ensure fiscal integrity and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Applies leading-edge technologies and practices such as financial aid/scholarship leveraging to refine and implement financial aid/scholarship packaging policies to attract and retain students.
Utilizes research and data through business intelligence to analyze and evaluate impact of financial aid and scholarships on enrollment goals.
Consults with leadership to provide vision and direction for the university's enrollment management activities, while managing a high volume financial aid operation.
Compiles and reports data for internal and external data requirements.
Ensures a student-focused service operation, working in coordination and consultation with other student service offices (Student Accounting, Registrar, One Stop Student Services Center, Admissions, Student and Residential Life).
Interacts closely with the deans of the colleges, student services directors, as well as coordinates with Rutgers-wide initiatives.
Educates proactively leadership on current and evolving financial aid regulations and institutional policies, impact to Rutgers University, and recommends effective options and solutions.
Minimum Education and Experience:
A master's degree in higher education or related field.
Minimum of three years' managerial experience in a college or university financial aid office, with supervisory qualifications.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong financial and personnel management experience.
Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communications skills with the ability to provide vision and motivation to staff.
Proven track record of project completion.
Commitment to providing information-rich and excellent student services.
Experience with financial aid and other relevant database systems.
Ability to build strong working relationships throughout the campus, outside, and university community is necessary.
Thrives equally in an environment that both requires close collaborative relationships and teamwork, as well as self-direction and motivation.
Proficiency with ERP Systems, Microsoft Excel, and database query tools preferred.
Fiver years' managerial experience in a college or university financial aid office, with supervisory qualifications.
