Reporting to the Executive Director of Advancement Services, the Director of Advancement Systems & Reporting will have responsibility for the continued improvement and enhancement of University Advancement analytics and reporting. This position will partner with the other members of the University Advancement team to build and maintain strong relationships between the university and our constituents through the use of information. This position serves as the expert in the day-to-day methods used to retrieve data and generate reports, and as the source of knowledge regarding the configuration of the many databases in use by University Advancement staff. S/he will be accountable for enabling business insights by descriptive, diagnostic, and predictive reporting design and providing statistical models, forecasts, metrics and analyses to assist managers to make informed business decisions, in managing donors and prospects from an individual or segment perspective. S/he will manage and mentor the Assistant Director of Advancement Services for Database Management and Reporting.
Provide data analysis and recommendations to support the goals of the University Advancement office – ranging from strategy development to the application of predictive models and metrics to increase fundraising, participation, and engagement.
Create visually appealing and easy-to-read dashboards that drive strategy within the division and inform leadership and partners of results.
Develop reports for analyzing specific appeals and targeted fundraising event success as indicated by changes in constituent giving patterns or levels.
Supervise and assist performance of specific projects and overall results; provide projections and forecasts of activity and goals.
Oversee and manage Database Management and Reporting to insure that proper collaboration, communication and execution of new software and other applications needing support in the Advancement Office.
Collaborate with various University Advancement offices to understand their information and business needs and translate into comprehensive reporting solutions that provide the client with actionable content.
Assist with the creation of the system design and functional specifications for all new development projects. Provide SQL administration in live and test environments.
Provide clear visualizations and present analyses to management and executive-level stakeholders, using Business Intelligence tools and predictive analytics to drive key decisions.
Review, analyze and occasionally modify systems including encoding, testing, debugging and installing support application systems.
Maintain proficiency and continuously develop expertise in new developments in the analytics and reporting field.
Contribute to the evaluation of vendors and analysis tools.
Participate in the development of the department’s strategic goals and direction.
Other related duties as assigned by Executive Director of Advancement Services.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in information management or computer science or related field
Five to seven years of experience analyzing large volumes of data and creating reports
Five to seven years of experience working in a fundraising domain and utilizing its databases for analytics and reporting
Demonstrated ability in using data visualization software and tools such as Tableau and Cognos for creating data visualization dashboards
Expertise in writing optimized queries in SQL programming language for extracting meaningful data
Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, Crystal Reports, or relevant software for managing, manipulating, aggregating, and analyzing data
Ability to work independently in a deadline-oriented team environment required
Significant experience with major database platforms like Oracle, MSSQL and experience with multiple versions of Oracle E-Business suite
Effective communication with both technical and non-technical personnel
Master's degree is preferred
Ability to lead direct and indirect reports is preferred
