The California Smokers' Helpline (CSH) is part of the UCSD Moore's Cancer Center and offers free evidence-based telephone counseling to help people quit using tobacco. CSH offers service in six languages--English, Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, and Vietnamese. In addition, CSH is involved with research in tobacco control through grant funding (NCI, CDC, CMS, TRDRP and others). Several research projects are usually being developed, implemented, written and published. CSH is also responsible for conducting the California Student Tobacco Survey (CSTS) and evaluating TUPE (Tobacco Use Prevention Education) program.
Reporting directly to the Director of Information Technology, the SQL Report Developer applies professional software concepts and campus policies and procedures to small projects or portions of projects. Resolves routine programming problems. Works on issues and projects of limited scope. Follows standard programming procedures to analyze situations and data from which answers can be readily obtained.
The position is responsible for working within the IT team to ensure correct development of reports and provides data analysis to the Operations and Research teams. Duties primarily involve helping create solutions from concept to implementation using a Business Intelligence tool such as JasperServer or Tableau, SQL, and object-oriented languages.
The SQL Report Developer is responsible for refactoring SQL to enable reuse as well as verify the accuracy of data extraction and reporting.
A Bachelor's Degree in related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.
Knowledge relating to the design development, modification and implementation of software including object-oriented programming concepts.
Demonstrated experience in SQL and a high-level programming language such as Java or C#.
Strong knowledge of a report server or business intelligence tool such as Jasper or Pentaho.
Demonstrated experience with all stages of the Software Development Lifecycle.
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
Fluency in a second language such as Spanish, Mandarin, Korean or Vietnamese.
