The Medical Informatics Specialist works collaboratively with Physician champions, Quality &; Performance Improvement and various internal information services teams to carry out the implementation of population health and/or ambulatory projects related to Epic clinical, healthy planet and reporting tools such as alerts, health maintenance, registries, metrics, reporting workbench, dashboards, etc. necessary to support quality reporting programs (ACO, MIPS, P4P, 5-Star etc.). The incumbent will manage medical informatics IT project lifecycle processes related to the EHR including translating requests from leadership and applying specific clinical, population health and/or analytical knowledge and expertise to develop clinical workflows and directly implementing or working with application teams to implement solutions. The incumbent will also collaborate with business intelligence and regulatory teams in developing reports, monitoring and analyzing performance related to various quality reporting programs. Incumbent team member functions as key liaisons for user contact and customer service on behalf of information services and are accountable for end-user satisfaction. Individuals in this job classification may also assist in the development of training materials and may participate as educators for end-users as related to specific information systems and services. The Medical Informatics Specialist provides feedback and may make recommendations to management and project directors, ensuring that the organization's goals, philosophies, and objectives are optimally supported by information technology. The Medical Informatics Specialist works closely with business leadership to understand the short and long-term business plans, elicit requirements, work with leadership to identify and implement technology solutions to support plans.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
* Respond to requests for assistance from IS colleagues and IS site management. * Demonstrates self-motivation, ability to work independently with minimal supervision, problem solve, manage multiple tasks and priorities, and work with diverse groups. * Provide education and support to physicians and clinicians. * Research, analysis and support for IS team. * Identify and resolve complex issues associated with assigned applications to ensure high levels of availability and user satisfaction. Maintain contact with MHS' Clinical users and senior team members to ensure understanding of needs, assignments, and overall goals. * Consults with management and staff regarding appropriate and practical use of automation as it relates to existing and proposed clinical and population health applications, leads systems analysis/selection efforts, and guides user support functions so as to optimally acquire and use systems. Collaborate with business and IT leadership to define project implementation approaches and to identify and monitor related key performances metrics. * Collaborate with Application Managers and Directors to meet evolving user needs related to existing or anticipated applications. Lead or participate in the development of user requirements for new or updated applications. * Manage medical informatics IT project lifecycle processes related to the EHR including translating requests from leadership and applying specific clinical, population health and/or analytical knowledge and expertise to develop clinical workflows and directly implementing or working with application teams to implement solutions. Participates in other various projects, work groups and team meetings to ensure achievement of quality outcomes, objectives, timetables, and overall integration of best practices in clinical, population health and business office decisions and documentation. * Develop and improve information management policies to ensure a highly competent, professional, and effective IS organization. * Actively participate in available education and training programs to increase understanding of assigned applications, technology, general information management and quality reporting programs requirements. * Provides a variety of training concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. * Able to monitor and report the frequency and effectiveness of these end user training efforts. Maximizes findings to increase end user's utilization of clinical, population health and patient access and financial systems functionality. Collaborate with business intelligence and regulatory teams in developing reports, monitoring and analyzing performance related to various quality reporting programs. * Conducts computer training programs for end users and assists them in the personalization of clinical and business systems through the development tools, templates and settings. * Maintains continuously high levels of end user contact, attending relevant meetings, actively participates in organizational activities, and functions as a key contact and leader for Information Services to ensure communication, collaboration, and teamwork. Independently identifies and resolves complex problems and issues that arise in and outside of the department. * Undertakes ad-hoc assignments as required to react quickly and positively to new or emergent situations.
* Strong analytical, creative thinking and problem-solving skills. * Superior and obvious communications skills, both verbal and written. * Excellent communication skills as related to strategy, schedules, tasks, deliverables, risks, and issues * Expert understanding of software development and infrastructure project lifecycles * Specific credentialing in Epic Ambulatory and Healthy Planet application modules required. * Working knowledge of Epic's registry framework including but not limited to how to implement Epic standard registries, modifying registries metrics, and developing custom registries based on business and clinical needs. * Working knowledge of PCs, collaborative computing tools, re-engineering/process improvement techniques, healthcare information management, general information architectures and technology, systems integration, laws, and regulations relevant to assigned applications. * Minimum of 4 years progressive nursing, pharmacy and/or exceptional clinical IT experience, significant and successful clinical project management. * Demonstrate proficiency with three or more of the following: Meaningful Use, Accountable Care Organizations, value-based purchasing, pay for performance, clinical content, clinical decision support, clinical quality measures. * Knowledge of healthcare and evolving industry standards/challenges. * High energy levels and tolerance of tight deadlines, time pressures, and ambiguity.
* BS degree in clinical or discipline or equivalent business experience in a related field preferred. Licensure as RN, Pharmacy, Laboratory, MRA or other healthcare business area required. * Master's degree (MHA, MPH, MBA, or MS in Computer Science, Information Systems or Medical Informatics) or clinical license (MD, RN, NP, etc.) preferred. * Specific credentialing in Epic Ambulatory required. * Healthy Planet application experience preferred. *HEC*
