Columbia University Investment Management Company, LLC, ("IMC") is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Columbia University charged with stewarding Columbia's endowment for the current and future support of operations and with preserving the purchasing power of the endowment over the long-term after inflation. Almost all funds are managed externally in a diversified strategy that uses active and passive management techniques across a range of asset classes.
The IMC seeks an execution oriented business intelligence data reporting specialist with hands on experience designing intuitive data visualizations using Tableau. The candidate will work directly with internal business stakeholders to understand their requirements, implement data visualizations and collaborate with technical data teams. The candidate will be responsible for the overall Tableau project management, providing initial and ongoing assessment of deliverables, reporting capabilities and related time requirements; manage the pro/con analysis of proposed solutions and requests to stakeholders. The candidate will be expected to apply industry best practices for structuring data, navigating data warehouses and datamarts to support report development. The candidate should also be process and control oriented, highly analytical and enjoy solving technological challenges. The position will report to the IMC's Chief Operating Office and will be under the direct supervision of the firm's Managing Director of Operations.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience, required. Minimum 5 years hands on experience designing, developing, troubleshooting, and administering Tableau reports for enterprise use (Tableau Desktop and Server), required
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Ideal candidate must have full mastery of Tableau's capabilities, tools, best practices, nuances and limitations as applied to dashboard/report development, table calculations. Must have experience in connecting to structured data sources (SQL programming is a plus). Must be able to design a report testing process/checklist and diligently highlight and address issues accordingly. Direct experience gathering and documenting user requirements, modeling, tracking and addressing feedback from users, required. Strong project management skills are required as the candidate will be asked to balance the need to work independently, prioritize and multi-task, while maintaining communications with various stakeholders at appropriate junctures (project managers, database team, end users). Ability to efficiently navigate, analyze and summarize unit of data to ensure completeness, appropriateness and accuracy, required. Hands on experience with MS Excel, including the analysis of VB/VBA based reports. Experience in the asset management industry (Fund of Funds, Hedge Funds, Private Equity, Endowments), familiarity with key reporting areas (benchmarking, performance, risk, trading p/l), and related calculations and metrics (IRR, Modified Dietz, Beta, Alpha) are a plus. Working knowledge/familiarity with PowerShell Scripting, JAMS or other scheduling automation tools is a plus. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail is a must.
