Optum is seeking a Director of Data Analytics with excellent healthcare analytics skills, a track record of innovation, and the passion to lead a talented staff of methodologists. This person will join a multidisciplinary product and analytic team within Optum Enterprise Analytics. They will have the opportunity to work on numerous predictive analytic initiatives and lead the methods development for various Optum products that go to market. This role is the perfect fit for an individual that enjoys the challenge of complex models and strategic decisions that address the measurement of health care services including cost, utilization, quality and risk. Primary Responsibilities: Create and maintain complex predictive models to meet product needsDevelop methodology and statistical modeling via SAS, or R, to address product functionality and other analytic needsCreate innovative solutions that line up with the ever-changing needs of the health care systemSupervise team of SAS programmers, methodologist, business analysts, research analysts, and data scientistsMaintain budgets, resource plans, and statements of workRecommend statistical methods to solve business/product requestsWork with clients and product management to understand business needsParticipate in the prioritization of project initiativesDevelop and manage business plans to achieve objectivesLead large, complex projects to achieve key business objectiveDocument findings, including assumptions and validation work in a clear structured mannerSummarize and present findings; adjust the content and level of detail to appropriate level of the audienceUtilize data from several data sources to support solution features, train and drive test modelsInfluence senior leadership to adopt new ideas, products, and approachesInfluence strategic efforts related to risk and predictive models
Required Qualifications: Advanced degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Medical Informatics, Computer Science or similar field of study Experience in predictive modeling, data manipulation, reporting, and analysisStrong analytical expertise: data analysis, statistical analysis, data manipulation, data extraction and reporting Knowledge of healthcare administrative data (medical claims, enrollment, provider data) Demonstrated capability in driving business result through modeling and segmentation implementation, analysis and refinement Excellent written and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with leaders across the organization and external customersAbility to work on multiple projects at the same time, meeting deadlines as agreed with our development and project partners Ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary teamsAbility to work with product development teams that will incorporate and operationalize the methods and models into software productsProficiency with MS Office applications 5 + years of predictive analytics experience 5 + years of data analytics experience 3 + years of experience with SAS or R3 + years of staff supervision/management experience 5 + years of healthcare experience 5 + years of healthcare claims experience3 + years of experience with large-scale healthcare data sources3 + years of experience using statistical methods with healthcare data3 + years of experience creating healthcare analytic solutions3 + years of experience leading large, complex projects to achieve key business objectives Preferred Qualifications: 3 + years of Machine Learning programming experience with SAS or R Experience with data from clinical data systems (Electronic medical records)Experience incorporating Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence concepts into solution development in a professional capacity Knowledge of Symmetry, Impact or OptumOne software productsExperience with business intelligence tools and data visualization tools (Tableau, other)Proven organizational skills with ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity Careers with Optum.
