The core responsibility for the Business Intelligence Analyst (BIA) is to provide technical support to the College of Nursing and Health Innovation (CONHI) in the identification, documentation and resolution of data quality issues related to business data usability; design, development and implementation of scalable cross functional (integrated) as well as institutional domain specific data that would make institutional data and information readily available to all CONHI stakeholders and external clients (e.g., accreditation agencies, state and national reporting, etc.) The BIA will work closely and collaboratively with the CONHI leadership team, faculty/staff and UTA IT staff on a routine basis to troubleshoot issues pertaining to the reports and the database environment to implement modern data architectures of the highest quality needed to support the CONHI and UT Arlington's analytics needs.
Gather, clarify, and translate business and data requirements into documentation and conceptual design from which technical solutions are developed. Analyzes and validates data using Tableau, R or other statistical analysis tools. Design, code, test and install complex reports/queries based on technical specifications. Provide user assistance and direction for ad hoc data reporting. Work on multiple projects with deadlines requiring strong attention to detail and analytics. Build specific frameworks and processes to integrate data from disparate systems. Adapt processes to accommodate changes in source systems and to respond to changes in business requirements. Work collaboratively in UT Arlington with other business analysts, systems analysts and data stewards to understand user requirements for data, data access and use permissions. Create streamlined, scalable integration solutions to support business intelligence and analytics environment. End-user consultation for report development. Performs other duties assigned.
Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or related discipline and Eight+ years of systems design, analysis, and programming experience in a combination of (experience may run concurrently) 5+ years' experience with relational database, client-server concepts, and SQL Plus (or Oracle 9i/10g tools) and/or 4+ years' experience with BI tools and OLAP development. In-depth knowledge of data mining in SQL or No-SQL data environments. Experience developing in at least one object-oriented programming language. Ability to create and analyze ERDs. Strong understanding of all phases of the application development lifecycle and project management disciplines. Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel). Experience with PeopleSoft Application Campus Solutions preferred (version 8.x+). Excellent organization, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication (verbal and written) skills. Ability to work well with people in all levels of the organization.
Master's degree or higher in Computer Science or Information Systems and/or 10+ years in programming-focused field in higher education where PeopleSoft Campus Solutions is the student information system using Tableau, R for data analysis. Machine learning, R programming, predictive and /or statistical analytics, Java or Python knowledge are all a plus. Experience with database administration and development and maintenance.
