The Director of University Budget Operations is responsible for the development, execution, and evaluation of the university's operating and capital budgets. The Director plays a critical role in developing and updating biennial budget proposals and long-range budget plans to the Assistant Vice President of University Budget and Finance Resource Center and for ultimate approval by the Board of Trustees. This position is responsible for preparing budget performance reviews on a periodic basis for the university leadership and unit budget/financial managers. This position leads financial analyses and research on a variety of issues affecting the university's budget planning and operations, and provides recommendations to the Assistant Vice President. He/she provides guidance to unit budget/financial managers and directors to present on budget policy, planning and management guidelines, and functional training.
Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree strongly preferred or the equivalent in professional experience
Ten years of progressive work experience in budgeting and financial management within a large, complex environment, preferably in higher education
Experience in strategic planning and resource allocations
Ability to develop budget policy and align priorities with financial resources
Proven track record of developing operating budget models, financial planning and forecasting
Excellent managerial, critical thinking and analytical skills
Excellent communication and presentation skills necessary to make presentations or interact with the Provost, Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors and Department Heads
Proficient knowledge and experience with spreadsheets, databases, and enterprise systems (e.g., Microsoft suite, business intelligence, administrative systems)
This position also conducts presentations to university staff and unit budget/financial managers on budget policy, planning guidelines, and training. In addition he/she serves as the budget office representative on various committees and project teams.
