Advancement Operations Unit Overview Advancement Operations develops and delivers the centralized business systems and services that support the work of UC Berkeley’s 30 decentralized fundraising units—helping them collaborate and communicate in order to maximize their collective results. Advancement Operations also provides governance through its role as the official source of alumni and fundraising data. The unit offers services that include advancement data management and enhancement, business intelligence and analytics, business process analysis and design, advancement training and communication, and customer support. Advancement Operations also oversees information technology systems and tools, including the Cal Advancement Data System (CADS), the database in which advancement professionals conduct research and record fundraising activity. Advancement Operations encompasses four units: Advancement Information Management, Information Technology, Planning and Analysis, and Advancement Training and Outreach.
Advancement Information Management Unit Overview Advancement Information Management (AIM) is the office of record for data related to alumni, donors, and friends of UC Berkeley. AIM helps the advancement community meet programmatic and campaign goals by providing accurate, complete data that documents the campus’s relationship with its constituents. AIM archives, enhances, and manages the data and delivers it through efficient processes and effective systems in a secure environment. In addition, AIM supports the campus advancement community with customer service on all CADS issues and works with campus units to provide meaningful information about that data through reporting and analysis services.
Position Overview As a member of the reporting and analytics team, the Data Systems Analyst uses skills as an experienced data management professional with full understanding of industry practices and campus methodologies, policies and procedures to analyze largescale data sets and problems and resolves a wide range of business issues. Works on projects such as providing fundraising performance analytics, improving business processes around data management, leading projects to provide data services and tools to optimize advancement operations, and more.
Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Interfaces with campus clients to provide expert customer service and guidance in the use of advancement data. Evaluates data sets, procedures, and services and recommends or designs new processes, services, reports and analysis to meet business requirements or to improve information acquisition, flow, and architecture. Creates functional and technical specifications for business processes and systems to document and implement requestor requirements. Ensures accuracy and completeness of data; establishes and maintains data security. Participates in and leads crossfunctional projects of diverse scope, size, impact, and budget.
•Applies professional and broadly defined IT and business analysis and data administration concepts to manage and perform complex assignments. •Provides analysis for complex information requirements and documents those using formal data definition techniques and naming standards. Creates complex specifications for processes and systems to meet user requirements. Prepares analysis reports to meet requirements. •Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes information from subject matter experts and technical personnel; summarizes business and user needs, documenting requirements and revising existing system logic difficulties as necessary; and develops recommendations for data management resource plans, including approaches, trends, sources and uses, etc. •Performs complex data management or resource research and studies for a variety of internal department constituents; plans metadata acquisition for sets of unstructured data objects, such as collections of images, documents or recordings. •Under supervision, designs and implements capture of metadata from technical processes such as software design and database management.
