The Senior Lean Data Analyst (SLDA) will be responsible for analytical reporting for the Lean Management Office (LMO). The LMO is responsible for conducting workplace improvement events across all three mission areas and the corporate services functions of NYU Langone Health. The SLDA will accomplish their duties by working with the LMO team and customers to manage data and metrics, analyze trends, and assess the impact of interventions on outcomes by utilizing a variety of statistical tools and methods and developing interactive visualizations and dashboards that provide actionable insights. Primary responsibilities include ensuring quality data structures for the analysis of data, use of proper statistical analyses, and implementing visualization best practices in created content through Tableau. The SLDA will work with a variety of data sources to write formulas/code in excel, tableau, and business objects; and develop and implement data, and business intelligence applications to enable customers to make data-driven business and mission critical decisions. Analytic expertise will also be applied to develop and design databases as needed, as well as for developing data/reports for senior leaders. This position will report to the LMO Assistant Director of Operations and Reporting.
Data Identification, Collection, Analysis and Reporting
1.1 Pull data from Medical Center IT systems and data bases and manipulate based on needs of project/Black Belt pre-, during- and post-event
1.2 Pull data to check hypothesis, conduct analysis, and present data in a usable format, etc.
1.3 Coordinate the design, maintenance, enhancement, coding/formula writing, and administration excel workbooks and data extract from relational database
1.4 Analyze and determine information needs and elements, data relationships and attributes, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities.
1.5 Coordinate new data development ensuring consistency and integration with existing data warehouse structure.
1.6 Review business requests for data and data usage, researches data sources for new and better data feeds
1.7 Highly skilled with MS Excel, Tableau, ability to create pivot tables, formulas, graphs, charts, etc.
1.8 Assist formulation of plans to gather data in least labor intensive way when not available through Health Center IT systems and data bases
Assist with manual collection of data and creation of tools to collect manual data where necessary
1.9 Create and design informational databases, develop and analyze reports as required
1.10 Develop reports/dashboards and train others on the use of a specific analytics platforms (i.e. Tableau, analytics), including coaching about the appropriate procedure available within the platform that will most effectively address a specific problem.
1.11 Document dashboarding process
1.12 Determine best statistical method to analyze and interpret data
Collect and interpret statistical data on the progress and success of LMO projects based on quality, safety, cost, delivery and morale
1.13 Work with Hospital Performance & Analysis (HP&A), finance, and MCIT on a regular basis to produce scorecards
1.14 Ensure data integrity by performing quality assurance and establishing routine data collection processes
1.15 Prepare materials for debriefings, key stakeholder meetings, improvement events, etc.
1.16 Update and create leadership reports on Lean program
Lean Event Support
2.1 Develop a strong understanding of client objectives and assess their business strategies and needs in relation to their objectives
2.2 Assist with pre- and post- event planning, act as a partner to the Black Belt, meet with Team Lead, Champion and Sponsor for problem analysis and metric identification pre and post event
2.3 Collect post-event data from teams and compile for reporting; alert Black Belts if there are significant changes in trends
2.4 Assist with creating data collection plans for events including defining metrics, data collection methods, frequency of collection, data source, etc.
2.5 Identify how to show hard and soft financial savings at onset of project
2.6 Provide support to customers through identification of metrics to support their departmental goals
2.7 Organize project tasks, structure information collection activities, and set timelines for completion of required tasks
2.8 Attend improvement event closeout presentations and participate in events when necessary
2.9 Utilize appropriate communication tools based on organizational standards
3.1 Teach customers how to identify and use metrics to help manage their departmental operations
3.2 Provide training and support to Black Belts on data analysis when necessary
3.3 Identify and correct problems involving data collected by teams and Black Belts
3.4 Collect and interpret statistical data on the progress and success of departmental training programs
3.5 Train others on the use of a specific analytics platforms (i.e. Tableau, analytics), including coaching about the appropriate procedure available within the platform that will most effectively address a specific problem.
3.6 Provide guidance on advanced MS Excel applications to LMO team members and customers
4.1 Familiar with MS Access, Jump, SPC Excel, SPSS and/or STATA
4.2 Develop business relationships with other analysts across the Medical Center
4.3 Complete special projects as assigned
4.4 Attend and participate in meetings, conference calls, and seminars, as required
Demonstrate knowledge of the organization's Values and incorporate them into the performance of duties
Bachelor's degree in statistics, epidemiology, math, science, engineering, business or health administration
Master's degree preferred
Minimum of five years' experience in an analytical role with demonstrated knowledge of financial concepts, statistical analysis and software applications including proficiency in Tableau, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
Familiarity with other database, analytical and business intelligence tools a plus Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Training in Lean Management, Six Sigma, TQM, or other continuous improvement methodologies is strongly preferred
