Brown University seeks a Senior Data Analyst to join a team of collaborative professionals in the Graduate School. The Graduate School Senior Data Analyst is responsible for the reporting and analysis of graduate student and program data for the Graduate School, University partners, and external stakeholders. This work includes developing standardized metrics and reports; submission of graduate survey and other external data reports; developing and, as needed, modifying reports, charts, and visualizations; and fulfilling data requests from offices and departments outside of the Graduate School, including senior officers.
Reporting areas include, but are not limited to, admission, enrollment, graduation, outcome and student support information. This will involve the use of University reporting tools such as Cognos and Tableau to create complex spreadsheets, tables, charts and other data visualizations. The incumbent will be expected to work in close collaboration with associated offices, including the offices of Computing and Information Services (CIS), Institutional Research (OIR), and the Registrar to develop reports and manage best practices for data integrity.
Major responsibilities include:
Producing recurrent data reports and packages in support of academic and student support assessment, including regular admission metrics reporting during the active admission cycle, and annual statistical admission and enrollment reports to academic departments and University offices. This work also includes the preparation of data for external agencies and associated surveys, including AAUDE, NSF, and other multi-institution data sharing agreements that the Graduate School or the University participates in. The Analyst works closely with all staff to ensure that data reporting policies, practices, and systems are robust, user friendly, and meet the needs of the Graduate School and its partners.
Responding to ad hoc requests for data/reports from academic departments and University offices and committees, ensuring that requests are fulfilled accurately, expeditiously, and presented in form that is clear and useful.
Developing and upgrading existing or new reports, dashboards, and visualizations in response to Graduate School and University needs. This work involves improving the display and usability of data reports and package. The incumbent will be expected to work in close collaboration with Graduate School leadership, the Business Intelligence group, and with other offices.
Managing best practices for the definition and integrity of graduate data at the University, ensuring consistent data definitions, advising other offices working with graduate data, addressing questions, and resolving data discrepancies. Advise, and potentially collaborate, in data collection efforts, working with the graduate school team, project manager, Banner team, OIR, and potentially other offices.
Bachelorâ??s degree or other advanced degree plus 2 to 4 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Highly developed quantitative skills in data analysis; statistical training desirable.
Proficiency in data retrieval using Business Intelligence reporting tools such as Cognos or demonstrated ability to master such tools.
Strong computer skills including familiarity with database design practices, desktop reporting tools and information display tools.
Proficiency at presenting information, and the ability to articulate complex statistical issues to non-technical audiences, verbally and in writing.
Strong management and project development skills, ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and work closely with peers.
Must recognize requests that are time sensitive, politically delicate, or involve confidentiality concerns.
Experience in academia or an academic organization preferred as well as experience working with graduate student enrollment data.
