Provide leadership and support for academic student services that rely on the interaction and development of student information systems and data analytics. Responsible for the ongoing evaluation of student records data and processes to support operations; and implement business process change management. Use strong technical reporting skills to provide accurate information that supports strategic decision. Manage the Office of the Registrar operational calendars. Work in collaboration with others to analyze and regularly deliver data for auditing and the overall accuracy of student records data and services. Work collaboratively in a team to assess current and future needs,recommend and implement best practices,and support academic record and information compliance including quality control procedures and record audits. Coordinate campus testing of systems enhancements and upgrades. Assist in operations management, planning and documentation; assist in the supervision of staff and student employees including mentoring and coordinating professional development.
Major Job Functions, Duties & Responsibilities: (30%) Manage student records data analytics and the UMD Office of the Registrar operational schedule. Analyze, design, and build queries that accurately support both regular and ad-hoc student records reporting. Coordinate the statistics and assist in the preparation of the departmental annual report. Work collaboratively with other reporting experts at UMD and throughout the system to best serve the information analytic needs of the Office of the Registrar, UMD academic units,and support the community across the system. Seek to understand and use best practices and industry standards for the benefit of students, staff, and faculty and external stakeholders.
(20%) Collaborate with a diverse group of managers and decision makers to identify and solve a variety of problems associated with business processes. Consult with campus student service stakeholders on needs assessment with academic policy, business practices and student information systems . Manage the analysis, development and implementation of projects,some of which are jointly owned, including the tracking and reporting of issues and progress. Provide team leadership, including effective communication and direct staff activities. Develop reports, flow charts, diagrams, and other supporting materials to illustrate processes. Assist in the monitoring of ongoing use of established processes to assure data and process integrity. Write effective documentation and training materials and coordinate and/or deliver ongoing training.
(20%) Manage departmental student information system(s) . Work in collaboration with the central Academic Support Resources team to analyze, evaluate and meet operational business and reporting needs with a robust and complex student information system including external systems and data warehouses. Trans late functional needs into technical specifications for information system setup, enhancements or modifications. Translate system design into written test plans and functional documentation. Manage the departmental involvement in system evolution, minor and major upgrades and the investigation and adoption of new services including support of knowledge transfer. Collaborate with a varied and diverse group of colleagues to achieve results.
(10%) Manage the Office of the Registrar Operational Calendars,job scheduling and enrollment reports. Execute job controlactivities effectively and accurately, including error report reconciliation. Distribute output in a timely manner; resolve problems.
(5%) Serve as an expert in the area of student records system configuration including the UMD Academic Structure (Schools, Program, Majors/Minors, specializations/tracks, etc.). Collaborate with the experts from other University of Minnesota campuses. Monitor and prepare information that integrates across student records, financial aid, admissions, student financials, etc. such as the preparation of cost of attendance information from the Board of Regents, etc. Provide resolution to system integration problems; understand and implement best practice options for system efficiency and effectiveness.
(5%) Recommend short and long term goals for the department; participate in the establishment of departmental objectives and policy in line with the campus and university mission; assist in preparation of department budget. Identify and promote student records, admissions, enrollment services and academic unit processes that will improve overall service quality. Use qualitative and quantitative data to support data driven decisions and ensure that strategic enrollment management goals are operationalized. Utilize best practices in all areas including change management for efficiency and effective service excellence. Maintain a broad understanding of the interrelated business processes in student administration. Perform on-going analysis and evaluation, establish performance benchmarks and enhance business processes and requirements in line with departmental goals. Possess in depth knowledge of and remain in compliance with federal, state, local regulations and professional standards.
(5%) Provide leadership and direction, encourage teamwork, actively engage and support personal and professional development, effectively collaborate to manage operations, solve problems, enforce policy and effectively communicate. Perform various personnel actions including hiring, performance evaluations, development, promotion, transfer, dismissal and salary recommendations. Actively participate in ongoing professional and personal development.

BA/BS degree in MIS, computer science or a closely related field and 2 years progressively responsible professional work experience in an area closely related to this position, or a combination of closely related, progressively more responsible professional work experience in an area closely related to the position.
Experience with analyzing and writing accurate data queries and delivering user-friendly reports using standard query tools (SQR, SQL, etc.)
