The Office for Information Resources and Technology (IRT) provides information technology and informatics services in support of the Stanford School of Medicines (SoM) clinical, research and educational missions. IRTs services include software development, web services, business analytics, educational technology, data center, data security, IT support and clinical informatics.
The Stanford University School of Medicine IRT Business Analytics Program is seeking a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst to, under supervision of the Director, become a key user advocate for analytics at the School of Medicine. The focus of the role is to drive business value for business users: through a service-oriented approach to quality solutions, excellent user experience, clear communication, complete documentation and repeatable process. The senior BIA will be the bridge between the IRT Business Analytics team and the SoM Analytics User Community. The person will "close the loop of business value: ensuring consistent quality, positive user experience, and driving adoption of analytical solutions throughout the School of Medicine. The success of this role will be directly dependent on how delighted our business users are in their experience of our team, its services, and its solutions.
The senior BIA will interact with users of analytical information and other stakeholders throughout the School of Medicine executives, departmental leaders, financial analysts and others, to understand and document their business processes and information requirements. S/he will perform the most advanced project and analytical work, in a wide range of business intelligence activities, to translate users business requirements into highly impactful analytical solutions. The senior BIA will collaborate closely with Business Analytics Architects and Developers to maintain the uniformity, accuracy, and semantic consistency of information solutions delivered through the application of effective documentation, data management, security, stewardship, and governance processes.
Provide complex analysis and recommendations regarding the information delivery design of dashboard and reports; may develop interactive queries and dashboards for central and distributed users, using tools such as Tableau and OBIEE.
Lead and own organization-wide complex business intelligence reporting and analysis initiatives; ensure initiatives directly support the organizational mission, are tested and accepted by users, and are delivered on schedule and budget.
Create and maintain business requirements documentation, metadata management, and data stewardship processes.
Own the entire solution lifecycle. Create recommendations for upstream data entry process improvement. Define and enforce user experience standards and best practices. Create reporting and power user query governance processes. Audit compliance and provide direction in non-compliance situations.
Participate in the development and enrichment of the SoM enterprise data model, assuring reporting system development builds upon the existing data foundation and data model conflicts are resolved.
Troubleshoot business intelligence environment problems and opportunities for improvement and coordinate with application team to resolve application bottlenecks and performance issues.
Coordinate the planning, development and presentation of training for the business analytics community.
May plan, mentor, coordinate, monitor and review the work of other information analytics-type staff during all phases of a project.

7-12 years relevant functional and technical experience, preferably in consulting, higher education and/or academic medicine
Advanced knowledge and experience of the following:
Analyzing and documenting business intelligence business requirements: business process flows, key business questions, facts and dimensions.
Analyzing and documenting business intelligence functional requirements: user experience, report and dashboard design, utilizing information delivery best practices.
Developing visualization and reporting solutions, leveraging technologies such as Tableau, OBIEE, QlikView, Hyperion, BusinessObjects, Microsoft SQL Server, MicroStrategy, or Cognos;
QA and data analysis, utilizing SQL querying and case-based testing methodology.
Metadata management methods and tools.
Demonstrated knowledge of technology project risks, and strategies for managing and mitigating them.
Understanding of the academic medicine environment its culture, issues, and information is a plus.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelors degree and seven years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Work experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics or engineering.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
Knowledge of computer system capabilities, business processes and workflow.
Strong project management skills and ability to understand and apply the software development lifecycle.
Demonstrated ability to review business processes and translate into BI reporting and analysis solutions.
Extensive experience in data analysis and root cause analysis and proven problem solving and analytical thinking capabilities.
Demonstrated ability with enterprise application and database driven applications.
Substantial experience with relational and dimensional logical data modeling.
In-depth knowledge of and ability using MS Office; analytical and business intelligence programs such as OBIEE, business objects, Informatica, Tableau, Matlab, SAS, R, SPSS etc.
Extensive background and experience with report and analysis design.
Experience with the application of User Interface and User Experience best practices.
Strong written and oral communication skills; proven presentation experience and comfort with senior management audiences and effective facilitation skills with diverse groups.
Ability to prioritize workload and work with minimal supervision.
