Suffolk University is seeking qualified candidates to consider for the Associate Director of Financial Reporting & Analysis role in the Budget Office. This key position is part of Suffolk's finance team and is responsible for ensuring the quality and accuracy of internal and external financial reporting by integrating analytic and accounting expertise with strong capabilities to develop and use financial systems and reporting. This position supports budgeting and forecasting activities, works with the Controller's Office to ensure the integrity of data within the financial systems and provides high-level accounting support for university transactions and reporting. He/she will also act as the primary Finance liaison with ITS for projects, system administration, report writing (both ad-hoc and standardized) and resolution of systems issues. The person in this role will work with the Office of Budget and Financial Planning, the Controller's Office, Bursar's Office and provide support to the Associate Vice President of Finance and the Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration/Treasurer in preparation of materials for presentation to senior management, the Board of Trustees and Board committees.
Provides high-level strategic analysis and financial reporting support for senior management and analyzes trends in financial data.
Participates in the development and maintenance of predictive financial models for strategic financial planning initiatives and processes and/or executive reporting dashboards.
Reconciles data between financial systems and identifies system issues that affect business functionality and data integrity; works with IT to resolve problems. Reviews financial systems and processes for efficiency and examines potential tools and solutions (systematic or other) to streamline processes. Provides expertise and helps manage the development, integration, and implementation of financial systems. Responsible for the support of the applications including monitoring integrations, updates and communicates information to users.
Working with the Controller, supports production of the annual financial statements and works with the external auditors to achieve successful results.
Provides accounting expertise to support university transactions and both internal and external reporting. Supports production of the annual external financial statements and Uniform Guidance audits, working closely with the internal and external auditors to achieve successful results.
Contributes to the development of financial policies, processes and procedures. Creates process documentation, flow charts and work instructions as needed.
Special projects and other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and minimum of 10 years of experience in internal and external reporting and budgeting and financial analysis
CPA and/or MBA is a preferred
Strong analytical/problem solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication/interpersonal skills
Knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting and experience with external audits
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Advanced technical and computer skills in financial, accounting and business intelligence systems/applications. Advanced skills using Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Experience with budgeting software and ERP applications
Demonstrated ability to solve various IT issues and work closely with IT on maintenance of existing systems and implementation of enhancements and potential new systems
